Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov has signed a law approving the country’s accession to the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency, marking a significant step in strengthening international cooperation on nuclear safety.
The convention, adopted in Vienna on September 26, 1986, in the wake of the Chernobyl disaster, facilitates coordinated international efforts to deliver rapid and effective assistance to countries affected by nuclear or radiological emergencies, The Caspian Post reports per Kyrgyz media.
Under the provisions of the law, Kyrgyzstan’s Foreign Ministry will submit the instrument of accession to the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which serves as the depositary of the convention.
The law is set to come into effect 15 days after its official publication.
