Landslide Traps Over 70 People in Kyrgyzstan's Karakol Gorge - VIDEO

A powerful landslide in Kyrgyzstan's Issyk-Kul Region has left 75 people stranded after debris blocked a mountain river, forcing it to change course and wash away a key road.

The landslide struck on July 14 in the Karakol Nature Park gorge, where two sections of a mountainside collapsed into the Karakol River, The Caspian Post reports via 24.kg.

The landslide blocked the river's channel, causing the water to carve a new path and destroy an internal access road. As a result, around 40 tourists, 35 local residents, and eight vehicles were cut off in the upper part of the gorge.

There have been no reported injuries. Those stranded have remained at a tourist base located in the gorge, where they are spending the night while rescue efforts continue.

Emergency responders, civil protection teams, and local authorities are working at the scene with heavy machinery to clear the debris and restore road access as quickly as possible.
