Kyrgyzstan, EBRD Boost Ties with Focus on Power, Roads, and Connectivity

The Kyrgyz Finance Ministry and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) have held high-level talks to advance cooperation on several large-scale infrastructure projects critical to the country’s development.

Finance Minister Almaz Baketaev met with EBRD Managing Director for Central Asia, Harry Boyd-Carpenter, to discuss current and future initiatives under the strategic partnership between Kyrgyzstan and the EBRD, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Among the key projects highlighted were the construction of the Kambarata HPP-1 hydroelectric power plant - a flagship energy project aimed at boosting national power generation capacity - the reconstruction of the Kara-Balta-Chaldovar highway, and the Kemin-Balykchy power transmission line, which is expected to enhance electricity reliability and regional connectivity.

Both parties reaffirmed their mutual interest in strengthening cooperation across the energy, transport, and infrastructure sectors, and agreed to explore further opportunities to deepen bilateral ties.

The EBRD remains one of Kyrgyzstan’s leading international development partners, having invested over €900 million in more than 200 projects across the country.
