Kyrgyzstan’s First International Golf Resort Takes Shape on Lake Issyk-Kul Shores

Construction is well underway on Kyrgyzstan’s inaugural international-class golf club, the Issyk-Kul Golf Resort, located in the village of Kosh-Kol on the scenic shores of Lake Issyk-Kul.

The ambitious project is spearheaded by Chingiz Jumaliev, with Rustam Japarov, son of President Sadyr Japarov, serving as its curator, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Covering a total area of 104 hectares, the resort’s centerpiece is an 18-hole “links-style” golf course occupying 70 hectares. Jumaliev reports that about 75 per cent of the construction has been completed, with full completion of the golf course anticipated by the end of 2025. The development will also feature a golf academy, a residential zone, and modern engineering infrastructure.

A recently released YouTube video highlights the progress and ambitious objectives of the project, including entry into the international golf registry and hosting of world-class tournaments. The construction team comprises more than 300 professionals, mostly Kyrgyz citizens. Specialized teams of greenkeepers and agronomists have been established, and over 3,000 trees-many endemic species-have been planted to enrich the landscape.

“The idea took root in 2022, and actual construction began in November 2023,” Jumaliev said. “This will not be an exclusive club for the elite but an open venue where everyone can come to play, learn, and relax.”

The project benefits from international expertise, with consultants from the UK and Russia contributing to the design concept, while equipment and materials are being sourced from the US, Europe, and China.

Jumaliev also praised the support provided by Japarov, especially in overcoming bureaucratic hurdles. “Sometimes it’s necessary to quickly import specialized seeds or equipment not registered in our country. Government backing allows us to avoid delays,” he noted.

Real estate sales within the resort have already started, with nearly all cottages in the first phase reserved. Investors include both local Kyrgyz nationals and international partners. The club aims to open its doors for the 2026 season.
