The annual Salburun Festival has taken place in Bokonbaevo village on the southern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, highlighting Kyrgyzstan’s rich nomadic heritage and hunting traditions.

The event drew hundreds of spectators who enjoyed exciting displays by skilled falconers who hunt with trained golden eagles - alongside competitions in archery, horse racing, and traditional Kyrgyz wrestling, The Caspian Post reports per Kyrgyz media.

Cultural performances were also a key part of the festival, featuring traditional poets, throat singing, musical acts on a traditional Kyrgyz string instrument, and exhibitions showcasing local folk crafts.

Salburun, an ancient form of hunting using golden eagles, bows, and dogs - a native breed of hunting sighthounds - continues to thrive as an important cultural practice in Kyrgyzstan.
