Kyrgyzstan to Boost Energy with Hydropower Plants in 2026

Kyrgyz Deputy Energy Minister Altynbek Rysbekov has announced that the Kyrgyz Republic plans to commission small hydropower plants with a total capacity of around 120 MW in 2026.

Rysbekov made these remarks at a parliamentary committee meeting, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

The latest facility to come online is the 18 MW Kara-Kul small hydropower plant, while other plants with capacities of 12, 7, 5, and 1.5 MW have already begun operating.

Rysbekov noted that over 100 MW from small hydro will be operational in 2026.

The state will purchase electricity from these small hydro plants at a fixed rate of 4.42 soms per kWh for 15 years, after which tariffs will be reviewed.

In a related development, a 400 MW solar power plant is also planned to strengthen Tajikistan’s green energy capacity, signaling a regional push toward renewable energy expansion.
