New Year Holiday Shuts Two Kyrgyzstan–China Border Crossings

Kyrgyzstan temporarily suspends two border checkpoints with China for New Year celebrations.

The Torugart-Avtodorozhny and Irkeshtam-Avtodorozhny checkpoints will be closed on January 1, 2026, as announced by the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.

Border crossings for personal, vehicle, and cargo traffic will resume as follows:

Irkeshtam-Avtodorozhny: January 1 at 10:00 p.m. (GMT+6)

Torugart-Avtodorozhny: January 2 at 8:00 a.m.

Authorities urge travelers and participants in foreign economic activity to plan their routes accordingly to avoid disruptions.

The announcement follows Uzbekistan’s recent decision to extend restrictions at the Daut-Ata border checkpoint, highlighting regional adjustments during the holiday period.
