A deeply disturbing case has shaken Kyrgyzstan after a 13-year-old girl was reportedly trafficked to Dubai and forced into prostitution, triggering national outrage and a criminal investigation.
The case was brought to public attention by MP Elvira Surabaldieva, who urged authorities to take urgent action and ensure a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, The Caspian Post reports via Kyrgyz media.
According to preliminary reports from law enforcement in the Issyk-Kul region, the girl - a resident of Balykchy - traveled to Dubai in August 2024 with her cousin. Investigators say the relative facilitated sexual exploitation of the minor while abroad.
The teenager later returned to Kyrgyzstan. However, after details of the abuse became known publicly, she tragically died by suicide, intensifying calls for justice and accountability.
A criminal case was opened under relevant articles of the Criminal Code. A forensic medical examination found the victim had suffered serious harm. One suspect has been detained and placed in custody. A second individual is also under investigation.
The probe is ongoing, with officials promising to uncover all details and hold those responsible accountable.
