Pakistan to Hold 3rd Round of Talks with Taliban in Istanbul Today

The third round of peace talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban is scheduled to resume on Thursday (today) in Istanbul.

The peace talks are aimed at finalising a joint monitoring and verification mechanism for the fragile ceasefire agreed earlier between Pakistan and Afghan Taliban in Doha, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media.

The talks, hosted and facilitated by Türkiye and Qatar, follow two earlier rounds of dialogue in Doha and Istanbul that ended without a breakthrough but succeeded in maintaining a temporary truce. Both sides agreed to continue negotiations, despite multiple challenges emerged during the previous five-day round that concluded on October 31st.

Pakistani officials during the talks made it clear that the talks are focused on one issue of ending terrorism against Pakistan originating from Afghan soil.

Pakistan took up strong position during talks that Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is responsible for hundreds of deadly attacks, of operating from Afghan soil under the protection of the Afghan Taliban regime.
