Russia Reaffirms Commitment to Stronger Ties with Iran

Moscow will continue expanding its relations with Tehran, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said amid US President Donald Trump’s announcement of the plans to pile pressure on Iran.

"We intend to continue our close relations with Iran. Iran is our partner. Our cooperation is multi-faceted in various areas. We will be expanding and developing those relations," he told journalists, The Caspian Post reports, citing Russian media.

Earlier, Trump signed an executive order to reimpose maximum pressure on Iran in a move to prevent Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons, as well as to reduce the country’s oil exports. The US has the right to block Iran's oil supplies to other states, Trump said. However, he did not rule out a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.
