Tragic Floods in Ukraine’s Odesa Claim Nine Lives, Including Child

At least nine people, including an 8-year-old child, have died following severe rainstorms and flooding in Ukraine’s Odesa region.

Rescue teams worked overnight to evacuate residents and address the damage caused by intense rainfall in Odesa and surrounding areas, The Caspian Post informs via Ukrainian media.

In just 12 hours, the region received nearly a month’s worth of rain, overwhelming drainage systems and triggering widespread disruption.

Search and rescue teams recovered nine bodies-six women, two men, and one child. Authorities also reported multiple cases of hypothermia caused by prolonged exposure to floodwaters.

The State Emergency Service announced that 362 people have been rescued so far amid the ongoing emergency response.

Over the past two days, heavy rains have resulted in extensive flooding, power outages, and fallen trees across the region.

Odesa is a strategically important area in southern Ukraine, bordering the Black Sea and hosting the country’s largest seaport in the city of Odesa.
