Trump Declares Global Introduction of Reciprocal Tariffs, Affecting Central Asian Countries

US President Donald Trump announced the implementation of a 10% customs tariff on imports of goods into the US from all countries, according to Bloomberg.

Trump said that for "decades" the US had been reducing trade barriers against other countries, while these countries "imposed huge tariffs on our products."

He showed charts with a list of countries and the amount of imposed tariffs. In particular, Washington is introducing duties on goods from the European Union in the amount of 20%, for China the amount of duties will be 34%, and for Great Britain - 10%.

The highest duties were imposed on Cambodia (49%), Vietnam (46%) and Sri Lanka (44%).

The list published by the White House does not include Russia, Belarus, Mexico, Canada.

The list also includes Central Asian countries, Akipress reports.

The chart shows that American goods in Kazakhstan are charged 54% tariff, while Kazakh goods will be subject to a duty of 27% in the United States.

According to the table, American goods in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan are subject to 10% duties. The United States has imposed 10% tariff on these countries.

Explaining this particular amount of duties, Trump said that the United States took half of the rates that Washington's trade partners "unfairly charge the United States." In particular, China, according to the US President, charges the United States "unfair duties" of 67%, so Washington is introducing duties of 34%.

The US President also announced that 25% tariffs on car imports will come into effect on April 3. He announced these tariffs at the end of March.
