Austria is discriminating against Russian diplomats and administrative staff at Russia’s permanent mission to international organizations in Vienna by delaying the issuance of entry visas, Russian Permanent Representative to the International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said.

Ulyanov made the remarks during the 70th session of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) General Conference.

He said Austria’s systematic delays in processing entry documents violate its obligations toward the IAEA.

“In recent years, Austria has consistently and clearly, deliberately made it more difficult for staff members of Russia’s permanent mission to international organizations in Vienna to obtain Austrian entry visas,” the diplomat said.

Ulyanov said that 26 people are currently waiting for entry permits, representing more than a quarter of the Russian diplomatic mission’s entire staff.

He added that six specialists submitted their applications as early as 2025. The longest outstanding application has been pending since January 15, 2025.

Ulyanov described Austria’s actions as deliberate and said the delays were affecting the work of Russia’s mission to international organizations in Vienna.
