Austria will deliver 25 passport scanners to Astana International Airport as part of strengthened cooperation with Kazakhstan.

The agreement was announced during an official visit by Austria’s Federal Minister for European and International Affairs Beate Meinl-Reisinger and Federal Minister of the Interior Gerhard Karner, who met with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, The Caspian Post reports via Kazinform.

The two sides highlighted the strong and pragmatic nature of bilateral relations, emphasizing growing cooperation across multiple sectors, including trade, investment, transport, energy, and tourism.

A key outcome of the discussions was progress on visa facilitation measures, including visa exemption agreements for diplomatic passport holders and cooperation on readmission procedures. These steps are expected to further strengthen mobility and institutional ties.

The Austrian side also confirmed the planned delivery of passport scanning equipment for Astana International Airport, implemented in partnership with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.

Beyond border management, both countries discussed expanding economic cooperation through joint business initiatives and intergovernmental platforms. Special attention was given to infrastructure development, logistics routes such as the Middle Corridor, and energy cooperation, where Kazakhstan continues to play a key role as a stable supplier.

Officials from both countries expressed confidence that the latest agreements will add new momentum to the Kazakhstan-Austria partnership and deepen cooperation at both bilateral and multilateral levels.
