Russia, Ukraine Agree IAEA-Brokered Ceasefire on Zaporizhzhya NPP

The IAEA has secured agreement from both the Russian Federation and Ukraine to implement a localized ceasefire that will allow repairs to begin on the last remaining backup power line to Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi confirmed in a statement.

Technicians from Ukraine’s electrical grid operator are expected to start repair work on the 330 kV line in the coming days, The Caspian Post reports.

The line was damaged and disconnected as a result of military activity on January 2. The disconnection has left Europe’s largest nuclear power plant reliant on its only functioning 750 kV main power line, the IAEA said.

An IAEA team has left Vienna to travel to the frontline to observe the repair work.
