Votkinsk Plant, a major Russian defence facility in the republic of Udmurtia, was targeted in an overnight strike, according to open-source analysis.
Independent Russian outlet ASTRA informed that it reviewed eyewitness footage and concluded the attack struck the plant in the city of Votkinsk. Video recorded roughly half a kilometre from the apparent source of the fire showed a blaze consistent with a direct hit on an industrial site, The Caspian Post reports.
The Votkinsk Plant produces several of Russia’s strategic missile systems, including the Iskander-M and Topol-M. The facility is regarded as a key enterprise within Russia’s defence sector and is subject to sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Switzerland, Australia, Japan and Ukraine.
Local residents posting in online chat groups claimed that Workshops No. 22 and No. 36 sustained damage, though those reports have not been independently verified.
Ukrainian open-source intelligence analysts suggested the strike was likely carried out using Flamingo cruise missiles rather than unmanned aerial vehicles, but there has been no official confirmation regarding the type of weapon involved.
Votkinsk is located nearly 1,500 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
