A section of the metro network in Russia's capital Moscow was temporarily disrupted after smoke was reported on one of the busiest routes in the system.

Train services on the Red Line were halted between Moscow Metro Red Line stations Sokolniki station and Park Kultury station following a technical malfunction involving a train set, The Caspian Post reports via the Russian Transport Department.

According to the Moscow Metro, the affected train was quickly removed from service and sent for inspection and maintenance by the manufacturer.

Preliminary findings point to a technical fault as the cause of the disruption. No injuries have been reported among passengers.

The Moscow Transport Department confirmed that operations were restored after emergency checks and safety procedures were carried out.

Emergency services were deployed near Krasnye Vorota station after reports of smoke prompted a temporary evacuation of passengers.

Eyewitnesses said nearby stations, including Komsomolskaya station, were also briefly cleared as a precaution while safety teams assessed the situation.

Passenger safety was not compromised during the incident. Metro staff assisted commuters in safely evacuating a stopped train and guiding them out of affected areas.

The disruption led to temporary service delays across several central stations in Moscow, as technical inspections and safety checks were carried out to ensure normal operations could resume.
