In January 2026, ten newborns died at a maternity hospital in Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Region, Russia, prompting an official investigation.
The Investigative Committee of the Kemerovo Region confirmed the case, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
Following reports of the infant deaths, the prosecutor’s office, together with specialists from Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) and Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor), launched a review of the hospital’s compliance with healthcare laws, child protection regulations, and sanitary-epidemiological standards.
The Novokuznetsk branch of the Investigative Committee has opened a preliminary investigation under Article 293 of the Russian Criminal Code (negligence) to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.
