Türkiye has named Fatma Ceren Yazgan, currently its ambassador to the Netherlands, as the new ambassador to Ukraine.

Her predecessor, Ambassador Mustafa Levent Bilgen, who has held the post since 2023, will head Türkiye’s first diplomatic mission in Iceland, The Caspian Post reports, citing Ukrinform.

“Turkey’s current ambassador to the Netherlands, Fatma Ceren Yazgan, has been appointed as the new head of the diplomatic mission in Kyiv,” the statement said.

Ambassador Mustafa Levent Bilgen has been reassigned to Iceland, where Türkiye has established its first diplomatic representation.

According to the Turkish Foreign Ministry, the decision was part of a routine rotation of heads of embassies and permanent missions, communicated by Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to the diplomatic corps.

Fatma Ceren Yazgan is a career diplomat. She graduated from the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations at Boğaziçi University and has been serving in Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1993. Over the years, she has held posts in Turkish embassies in Oman, Ukraine (2002-2006), Russia, and at Türkiye’s Permanent Mission to the OSCE.

She has also headed the Directorate General for Intelligence and Security Affairs, as well as the Directorate General for Migration Policy and Visa Procedures. From 2017 to 2022, she served as Türkiye’s ambassador to Georgia, and since 2024 she has been leading the Turkish diplomatic mission in the Netherlands.

As previously reported, in late May, Ukraine’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Serhii Kyslytsia discussed further prospects for the peace process with Ambassador Mustafa Levent Bilgen, as well as issues of bilateral cooperation and the international agenda.
