Türkiye Signs €1.47 Billion Air Defense Deal to Expand Missile Shield Production - VIDEO

Türkiye has taken another major step toward strengthening its Steel Dome air defense network, signing new serial production contracts for the Hisar-A and Hisar-O missile defense systems with leading defense firms Aselsan and Roketsan.

The agreements, announced by Defense Industries Secretariat (SSB) President Haluk Görgün, are part of Türkiye's strategy to build a multi-layered national air defense shield while continuing to meet its commitments within NATO, The Caspian Post reports via Anadolu Agency.

Calling it "a major day in the defense of the Sky Homeland," Görgün said the contracts reinforce Türkiye's long-term vision of expanding its indigenous air defense capabilities. He noted that the country's defense industry now includes more than 4,000 companies and employs around 100,000 engineers and technicians, making it one of the fastest-growing defense ecosystems in the region.

Separately, Aselsan confirmed it had signed an additional €1.47 billion ($1.68 billion) contract with the Defense Industries Secretariat to support ongoing air defense production programs. While the company did not specify the systems covered or the delivery timeline, it said the agreement is expected to positively impact future revenues.

Developed jointly by Aselsan and Roketsan, with missile warheads designed by TÜBİTAK SAGE, the Hisar family of air defense systems forms a key pillar of Türkiye's indigenous missile defense architecture.

The Hisar-A+ system is designed to protect mobile and armored units against low-altitude threats with an interception range of up to 15 kilometers, while the Hisar-O+ provides medium-altitude air defense with a range of up to 25 kilometers. Both systems are capable of intercepting fighter jets, helicopters, cruise missiles, air-to-surface missiles, and both armed and unarmed drones.
