Türkiye is launching a major nationwide anti-smoking initiative that will provide free treatment for tobacco addiction to up to one million people, regardless of whether they have social health insurance.
The program was approved under a decree signed by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the country's Official Gazette, The Caspian Post reports via TRT Haber.
Under the initiative, eligible participants will receive free smoking cessation medications, including nicotine replacement therapy as well as prescription drugs containing bupropion, varenicline, and cytisine.
The medications will be purchased by Türkiye's Ministry of Health and distributed through hospitals, healthcare facilities, and specialized smoking cessation clinics across the country.
