With just ten days remaining until the FIFA World Cup 2026 draw, FIFA has announced the tournament pots, placing the Iranian national football team in the second pot.
The upcoming World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with teams divided into four pots as they await the announcement of their group stage opponents, The Caspian Post reports.
Pot 1 features the three host nations alongside Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
Pot 2, where Iran is placed, also includes Croatia, Morocco, Colombia, Uruguay, Switzerland, Japan, Senegal, South Korea, Ecuador, Austria, and Australia.
Pot 3 consists of Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa.
Pot 4 features Jordan, Cape Verde, Ghana, Curaçao, Haiti, New Zealand, and six teams that will qualify through the playoff rounds, including winners of two FIFA intercontinental playoffs.
FIFA will release the updated match schedule on December 6, detailing stadium assignments and kickoff times. Organizers aim to provide an optimized timetable to ensure ideal conditions for teams and convenient viewing times for fans worldwide.
