The Iranian girls’ handball team captured gold at the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain, clinching the championship after their fifth consecutive victory-before the tournament had even concluded.
The team had already impressed with wins over China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Thailand and continued their flawless performance with a dominant 43-26 victory against India on Tuesday, The Caspian Post reports, citing Iranian media.
With 10 points from five matches, Iran remains unbeaten at the top of the standings, securing the gold medal ahead of their final game against Hong Kong and underscoring their dominance in the tournament.
This is the first-ever gold medal won by Iranian handball players at the Asian Games, in both youth and senior categories.
The Asian Youth Games are held in Manama, Bahrain, from October 22 to 31.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi issued a congratulatory message, praising the team’s “historic championship” and lauding the players for achieving success while “upholding their cultural and moral values.”
He described the win as “a symbol of the determination and capability of Iranian women.”
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also extended his congratulations, saying, “Once again, the daughters of Iran proved that there are no limits to their pursuit of glory.”
He hailed the triumph as “not just a fleeting moment of joy, but the beginning of a proud and inspiring future for Iranian women in sports.”
