Kairat Suffers Heavy Loss to Club Brugge in Champions League

Almaty’s Kairat suffered a home defeat to Belgium’s Club Brugge in the league phase of the UEFA Champions League at Astana Arena.

The match was officiated by Lithuania's Donatas Rumsas and saw a dominant performance from the visitors, The Caspian Post reports.

Kairat started with Anarbekov, Mata, Sorokin, Martynovich, Tapalov, Kassabulat, Glazer, Gromyko, Jorginho, Mrynskyi, and Edmilson, while Club Brugge fielded Jackers, Sabbe, Ordonez, Mechele, Seys, Stankovic, Vetlesen, Vanaken, Forbes, Vermant, and Diachon.

The Belgian side pressed high from the start, with Mamdou Diachon hitting the post early on. Goals from Aleksandar Stankovic and Hans Vanaken put Club Brugge in control. In the second half, Mateo Vermant and Brandon Mechele extended the lead. Kairat responded with a consolation goal from Adilet Sadybekov’s stunning long-range effort, but the match ended 1-4 in favor of the visitors.

Kairat will play their final match of the league phase on January 28 against Arsenal in London.
