Uzbek chess grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov has claimed victory at the FIDE World Cup 2025 in Goa, India, defeating China’s Wei Yi in the final, The Caspian Post reports, citing Uzbek media.
The first day of the final, held on 25 November, ended in a tie, with both classical games finishing 0.5-0.5. The champion was ultimately decided on 26 November during the tiebreak. While the first tiebreak game was drawn, Sindarov secured victory in the second game, clinching the title.
With this achievement, Sindarov becomes only the second Uzbek player to win the World Cup. The first was Rustam Kasimdjanov, who claimed the title in 2004 in Latvia, when the FIDE World Cup and World Championship were held under a single event.
