Vafa Musayeva Becomes First Azerbaijani Woman to Summit Mount Everest

Vafa Musayeva has secured a place in the history of Azerbaijani sports.

She is the first female Azerbaijani alpinist to climb Mount Everest, The Caspian Post reports.

Vafa achieved this success on May 15. She is the 3rd Azerbaijani alpinist to conquer the world's highest peak.

Israfil Ashurly achieved this in 2007, and Vadim Vokryachko 12 years later. True, two more Azerbaijani athletes have climbed Everest. But Murad Ashurly, who rejoiced at this in 2013, conquered the summit as a citizen of Russia and the USA.

The first Azerbaijani woman to climb Everest was Elmira Aslanova. She managed to do this in 2023 as a citizen of Ukraine.

It should be noted that Everest, which is 8848 m high, was first climbed in 1953 by Nepali Tenzing Norgay and New Zealander Edmund Hillary.
