EU–Tajikistan Forum Celebrates People Powering Green Shift

Tajik citizens leading the country’s shift toward clean energy have been in the spotlight at the third EU-Tajikistan Sustainable Energy Days, held in Dushanbe.

According to the EU Delegation to Tajikistan, the event highlighted the human stories behind the nation’s green transition, featuring a powerful photo exhibition and a symbolic tree-planting ceremony, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.

The gathering brought together representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, the Renewable Energy Association of Tajikistan, the EU Delegation, students, and the individuals showcased in the exhibition, “The European Union - Tajikistan: Faces of Sustainable Energy Development Cooperation.”

The exhibition celebrated the people driving change-policymakers, researchers, engineers, and educators-whose work supports Tajikistan’s sustainable energy ambitions. A digital regional display added another layer, featuring 38 portraits from all five Central Asian countries, underscoring the region’s collective commitment to a greener future.

Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Resources Manouchehr Safarzoda emphasized that more than 98 per cent of Tajikistan’s electricity already comes from hydropower, adding that the country aims for a full transition to green energy by 2037. “This transition isn’t just technical-it’s about the people who make it possible,” he said, thanking the EU for its continued support.

After the exhibition, participants joined a tree-planting initiative at the Novaya substation, supporting Tajikistan’s long-term “Green Country” strategy and national greening program through 2040.

EU Ambassador to Tajikistan Radosław Darski called the event “a tribute to shared values and a sustainable future,” noting that individual efforts-from policy reforms to planting a single tree-collectively shape a greener tomorrow.

The Sustainable Energy Days were organized under the EU-funded SECCA project, which supports Central Asia in building cleaner, more resilient energy systems and runs through March 2026. The initiative forms part of the broader EU-Central Asia Sustainable Energy Days campaign, aligned with the EU’s global Sustainable Energy Week, Europe’s largest annual event dedicated to renewable energy and efficiency.
