President Rahmon: Tajikistan to Double Mineral Production

Tajik President Emomali Rahmon has highlighted remarkable growth in the country’s mining sector during his address to parliament, noting that production surged from 7.7 billion somonis ($836.831 million) in 2020 to 26 billion somonis ($2.825 billion) in 2025-a 3.4-fold increase.

Rahmon emphasized that while Tajikistan produced only gold, silver, and lead powder in 1991, by 2025 the country will produce 17 different minerals, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

Gold output has grown sevenfold, silver sixfold, and lead powder ninefold compared to 1991. The total mining sector output has more than doubled over the past seven years, reaching 66 billion somonis ($7.172 billion), with projected growth of 22 per cent in 2025 alone, reflecting modernization and the success of Tajikistan’s industrialization program.

Looking ahead, Rahmon announced plans to double mineral extraction and production, focusing on full-cycle processing of local raw materials and attracting both domestic and foreign investment. He stressed the importance of processing local minerals, metals, agricultural products, and medicinal plants, and proposed a new mining strategy for 2026-2030 to strengthen regulation, improve environmental standards, and enhance legislation.

The president also called for the development of light industry, including textiles, footwear, and furniture, to boost employment, domestic production, and exports. Rahmon set a target of at least 25 per cent annual growth in industrial production from 2026 to 2030, emphasizing investment and productivity as key drivers for Tajikistan’s continued economic stability.
