A Tajik delegation has visited Azerbaijan this week to examine the country’s practices in judicial oversight, penitentiary management, and probation services.
The visit was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in judicial reform, The Caspian Post informs via the Azerbaijani Justice Ministry.
Hosted by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Justice, the delegation met with Deputy Minister and Head of the Penitentiary Service, Mirsaleh Seyidov, to discuss key issues including:
Inter-agency coordination in the administration of prisons and probation
Prison legislation and legal safeguards for inmates and detainees
Rights protection for convicted individuals and those under arrest
Upgrading infrastructure and building modern penitentiary institutions
As part of their visit, the Tajik group toured several correctional facilities, including the Baku Pre-Trial Detention Center, Correctional Facility #4, a juvenile detention facility, and the penitentiary complex in the Umbaki settlement.
Officials from both countries expressed interest in drawing on Azerbaijan’s experience to inform reforms in Tajikistan, particularly in such areas as infrastructure modernization, enhancing legal protections, and improving the probation system.
