The Tajik government has allocated 15 million somoni ($1.574 million) for 2025 to support women entrepreneurs, a threefold increase from the previous year’s funding of 5 million somoni ($524,699).
The expanded grant program aims to foster women-led businesses and promote inclusive, sustainable economic development across the country, The Caspian Post reports, citing Tajik media.
Under a newly adopted resolution, the government will maintain this annual allocation of 15 million somoni through 2030, distributing 200 grants each year to support women’s entrepreneurial initiatives.
Additionally, 10 per cent of the grants will be designated for climate-related projects, aligning with the country’s increased focus on environmental priorities.
The Committee on Women and Family Affairs will oversee the implementation of the initiative, while the Ministry of Finance will ensure proper disbursement of funds through the national budget.
Launched in 2006 under the initiative of President Emomali Rahmon, the grant program originally disbursed 150,000 somoni ($15,74) in its first year. Since then, it has played a vital role in promoting women’s entrepreneurship and reviving traditional crafts.
The program’s main objectives include:
Creating jobs for women and girls
Scaling up production of handcrafted goods, particularly in sewing and artisanal sectors
Improving household income and enhancing family welfare throughout the country
