Tajikistan has launched a unique educational project breaking stereotypes about age and technology.
In just two months, anyone aged 16 to 70 can go from a complete beginner to a certified drone (UAV) pilot, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.
The initiative is part of the country’s “Skills Improvement and Employment Opportunities” program, which began about four months ago. This large-scale effort is not just a course-it is a state strategy to accelerate industrialization.
Why Drones?
Drones are no longer toys-they are smart tools for farmers. Their use helps optimize work processes, increase crop yields, and reduce costs in agriculture. To operate such technology, the country needs skilled personnel, and the government is ready to train them free of charge.
Training Details
The project is highly accessible:
Duration: 2 months of intensive training
Schedule: Daily sessions in two shifts (8:00-12:00 or 13:00-17:00)
Age range: 16-70, welcoming both students and active retirees
Gender balance: Most participants are women and young people aged 16-30
Benefits for Graduates
Upon successful completion, students receive:
$120 one-time stipend (for women)
Internationally recognized certificate opening doors to major companies
Job recommendation to help secure employment faster
Training Centers
The main UAV pilot training hub is in Dushanbe, but the program spans the country with six modern centers:
Dushanbe: Tourism, service, drone operators
Rogun: Energy
Dangara: Agriculture
Khujand, Bokhtar, Vose: Professional training and service
How It Was Made Possible
The project is implemented under an agreement between the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank, aiming to adapt citizens to modern labor market requirements. With a shortage of tech-savvy specialists, the program provides critical support for job seekers facing the challenges of today’s labor market.
This initiative makes Tajikistan a pioneer in accessible drone education, combining technology, agriculture, and workforce development for sustainable growth.
