The Prime Minister of Tajikistan, Qohir Rasoulzoda, is set to meet with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin in Moscow today to discuss bilateral cooperation in the economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres.
The main focus will be on the implementation of major joint projects in areas such as energy, industry, agriculture, education, and culture, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media.
"Russian-Tajik relations are based on the principles of strategic partnership and alliance. The development of comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation with Tajikistan remains one of Russia's key foreign policy priorities.
Active political dialogue at the highest level and regular 'check-ins' on the most important issues of interaction between the two countries help maintain intensive interagency contacts," the statement said.
Special attention will also be given to Tajikistan's role within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). In 2025, Tajikistan took over the presidency of the CIS, and more than 100 events are planned within this framework.
The Russian side expressed its readiness to continue constructive work with Tajikistani partners and provide the necessary support in carrying out the presidential functions.
Earlier, Presided over by Tajik Foreign Minister Sirojiddin Muhriddin, a meeting of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the CIS (CIS MFA), which took place in the Kazakh city of Almaty on April 11, supported the Cooperation Program of CIS member states on strengthening border security at external borders for 2026-2030.
The Tajik side presented the priority areas of its presidency in the organization, including ensuring regional security, enhancing economic ties, digitalization, and supporting cultural initiatives within the CIS.
Sirojiddin Muhriddin announced that the next meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government will take place in Dushanbe on June 4-5 this year. An agreement on cooperation in the development of heavy machinery industries is expected to be signed at the meeting and an industrial exhibition will be organized on the sidelines of the meeting. Business and cultural events aimed at strengthening interstate cooperation are also planned.
