Tajikistan has received a moderate score of 55 points from the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Council, reflecting mixed progress across key areas like stakeholder engagement, transparency, and impact.
The EITI, an international watchdog promoting openness in natural resource extraction, praised Tajikistan’s efforts but highlighted several areas needing improvement to boost accountability and curb corruption.
Stakeholder Engagement: Solid but Needs Growth
Tajikistan earned 56.5 points for engaging government, companies, and civil society in EITI processes. Still, the Council called for stronger civil society involvement and more active leadership to keep momentum going.
Transparency: Gains Made, More to Do
With 53.5 points, Tajikistan showed progress in disclosing beneficial ownership and passing new laws. Yet, the Council urged better access to data on licenses, contracts, and ownership details.
Results and Impact: Positive Steps, But Monitoring Lags
Scoring 55, the country developed a solid 2024-2025 action plan to attract investment and raise public awareness. Still, continuous monitoring and responsive adjustments are critical for sustained success.
24 Key Actions Ahead Before 2027 Review
Tajikistan faces 24 recommended actions-from improving transparency in license distribution to better managing state enterprises-before the next EITI review in July 2027. Without visible progress, its EITI participation risks suspension.
Tajikistan’s EITI Journey
Since joining in 2013, Tajikistan briefly paused participation due to reporting delays but has since recommitted to annual reporting and reforms aimed at transparency in its vital extractive sector.
This score serves as a call to action for Tajikistan to strengthen transparency and governance-key steps toward unlocking the full potential of its natural resources.
