The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has aligned its regional warehouse infrastructure strategy with Tajikistan’s national priorities, focusing on the creation of logistics hubs and cold storage facilities as part of a future unified Eurasian supply chain network.
At the Central Asia Warehouse Summit in Almaty, EDB unveiled its strategic vision for warehouse development across Central Asia and announced plans to establish the Central Asia Warehouse Real Estate Association - a platform to standardize the sector, expand access to long-term financing, and unite key industry players, The Caspian Post informs via Tajik media.
EDB experts noted that the region faces a shortage of nearly 2 million square meters of modern warehouse space, with strong investment returns of 17-20 per cent annually and payback in 5-8 years. By 2040, the total warehouse stock in Central Asia is expected to grow from 58 million to 101 million square meters.
For Tajikistan, this initiative is particularly significant. The country is preparing financing to develop wholesale logistics centers and cold storage facilities by 2026 - a step that aligns with its 2030 Strategy to end communication isolation and build new transit corridors. These modern logistics hubs will play a key role in reducing agricultural losses, improving product quality, and expanding exports.
EDB’s broader investment plans - totaling around $1.2 billion - include developing major transport corridors like Europe-West China and North-South, strengthening the water and energy sectors, and integrating transport and logistics centers into a seamless Eurasian network.
For Tajik businesses, the impact will be transformative: from stabilizing food prices and boosting agricultural exports to accelerating e-commerce and logistics efficiency. The newly formed association will ensure transparency, quality standards, and fair financing - paving the way for Tajikistan’s integration into the region’s rapidly modernizing trade infrastructure.
