Kazakhstan to Build Major Logistics Hubs in Three Cities by 2027

Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has announced that new logistics complexes, including multimodal centers and dry ports, are planned to be established in Almaty, Astana, and the Kostanai Region by 2027.

The initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize national transport infrastructure and reinforce Kazakhstan’s role as a key Eurasian transit hub, The Caspian Post reports, citing Kazakh media.

“By expanding and improving logistics infrastructure, Kazakhstan is strengthening its position along the vital East-West and North-South trade corridors,” said Bektenov.

He cited several strategic nodes along these routes, including Lianyungang, Xi’an, Dostyk, Altynkol, Kuryk, Aktau, Alat, Selyatino, Svisloch, and Urumqi, with several terminal construction projects already underway.

The country’s national railway company, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, is also actively developing transport links with logistics centers in Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan, aiming to enhance cross-border freight movement and regional trade integration.

In parallel, the government has established a dedicated operational headquarters to coordinate export logistics and resolve challenges faced by exporters. This task force brings together state agencies, industry associations, and the private sector to streamline trade processes and support economic diversification.

Bektenov noted that these efforts are already delivering tangible outcomes. Kazakhstan’s agricultural exports have steadily increased from $3.4 billion in 2020 to $5.1 billion in 2024. Significantly, processed agricultural goods now account for 52 per cent of total exports in the sector.

“These projects are not only facilitating stable export growth but are also promoting value-added production, expanding access to international markets, empowering small and medium-sized enterprises, and ensuring adherence to global quality standards,” he emphasized.
