Tajikistan Sends Young Judo Stars to Global Championship in Bulgaria

From August 27 to 31, Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, will host one of the season’s most prestigious judo tournaments, the OTP Group Sofia World Championships Cadets 2025 Individuals.

The Judo Federation of Tajikistan (JFT) confirmed that the country will be represented by six athletes, The Caspian Post reports via Tajik media.

The Tajik team includes:

Haidar Mahmadsharifov (55 kg)

Loiq Kudbudinov (60 kg)

Bobodzhon Sharopov (73 kg)

Abubakr Abdujalilzoda (81 kg)

Madina Qurbonzoda (52 kg)

These young judokas earned their spots on the national squad through rigorous national tournaments and intensive training camps. Officials from JFT stated that the team is in peak condition and ready to contend for medals.

The competition schedule is as follows:

August 27 - Boys: 50 and 55 kg; Girls: 40 and 44 kg

August 28 - Boys: 60 and 66 kg; Girls: 48 and 52 kg

August 29 - Boys: 73 and 81 kg; Girls: 57 and 63 kg

August 30 - Boys: 90 and +90 kg; Girls: 70 and +70 kg (final individual events)

August 31 - Mixed team tournament (final day)

For the Tajik delegation, the championship represents both an opportunity to win medals and to gain international experience. Analysts highlight Madina Qurbonzoda, who has already impressed in international competitions, along with Loiq Kudbudinov and Abubakr Abdujalilzoda, regarded among the strongest cadets in Central Asia, as athletes to watch.

The Judo Federation of Tajikistan has set high expectations for the team, aiming not only for podium finishes but also to gain valuable experience against some of the world’s top competitors. Strong performances in Sofia could improve the athletes’ world rankings and open doors to participation in major international tournaments.
