Tajikistan Sets Bold Goal to Go Fully Green by 2037

Tajikistan has announced plans to become a fully green country by 2037, signaling a bold step in its commitment to sustainable development and clean energy.

The announcement was made by the country’s Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, during a roundtable hosted by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) at Kazakhstan Energy Week 2025, The Caspian Post informs via Kazakh media.

As part of its national development strategy, Tajikistan aims to complete its transition to 100 per cent renewable energy by 2032.

Currently, the country generates approximately 98 per cent of its electricity from hydroelectric power, placing it among the lowest global emitters of carbon dioxide. Juma highlighted this achievement as a foundation for further progress.

“Thanks to our reliance on hydropower, Tajikistan is already among the cleanest energy producers globally. Our goal is to achieve full green economy status by 2037,” he stated.

The minister’s remarks align with a broader regional shift toward sustainability. Neighboring Kyrgyzstan recently adopted its Green Economy Development Program, with a target date of 2029.
