Tajikistan has been added to a list of countries whose citizens must pay a visa bond when applying for a US visa, according to an announcement published on the official website of the US Department of State.
For citizens of Tajikistan, the new requirement will come into force on January 21, 2026, The Caspian Post reports via the US Department of State.
For nationals of 15 other countries, the rule has already been in effect since January 1, 2026. Overall, the measure applies to 38 countries worldwide. From Central Asia, the list includes Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan.
Under the new rules, applicants traveling to the United States for tourism or to visit relatives (B1/B2 visas) will be required to pay a visa bond after their documents are approved. The bond amount may be $5,000, $10,000 or $15,000, with the exact sum determined individually during the consular interview. The US Department of State stressed that paying the bond does not guarantee visa issuance.
Travelers entering the US on these visas are strictly prohibited from overstaying the period authorized by their visa. Any overstay or violation of US laws will be treated as a breach of the “Immigration Guarantee,” which applicants from these countries must also sign under Form I-352.
Visa holders will be allowed to enter the US only through international airports in Boston, New York and Washington. If travelers return to their home country within the permitted timeframe and the US Department of Homeland Security confirms compliance, the bond will be fully refunded. Otherwise, the deposited amount will be forfeited.
