Equestrian Diplomacy Strengthens Baku–Ashgabat Bonds

Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are deepening cooperation in horse breeding, with a special focus on preserving and promoting the iconic Karabakh and Akhal-Teke breeds - regarded as cultural treasures of both nations.

The discussions took place in Ashgabat during a meeting between Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Gismet Gozalov, and Rector of the International Horse Breeding Academy, Piga Bayramdurdiev, The Caspian Post reports via the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Turkmenistan.

Both sides noted that the Karabakh and Akhal-Teke horses hold a unique place in the historical and cultural heritage of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. These ancient breeds share deep roots and symbolize centuries-old traditions, serving as powerful emblems of national identity and Turkic cultural values.

The parties also noted that the protocol of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan includes provisions for expanding cooperation in horse breeding. Significant potential exists for practical implementation, particularly in equestrian sports, traditional horse games, professional exchanges, and the preservation of the genetic heritage of both breeds.
