The talks involved Azerbaijan Railways Chairman Rovshan Rustamov, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Railway Transport Mammet Akmammedov, Uzbekistan Railways Board Chairman Zufar Narzullayev, and Georgian Railway CEO Lasha Abashidze, The Caspian Post reports via Azerbaijan Railways.
The meeting focused on expanding cooperation in the railway sector, with particular attention to the Middle Corridor, one of the region’s key transit routes.
Participants exchanged views on boosting the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor, increasing cargo volumes, and enhancing efficiency through the digitalization of railway operations, which was highlighted as essential for faster and more reliable freight transportation.
The sides also emphasized the importance of the memorandum of understanding on transport and logistics cooperation signed in August last year in Turkmenbashi. The agreement, concluded between Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Railway Transport, and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport, is expected to play a significant role in deepening regional cooperation.
Following the meeting, the parties signed a protocol covering digitalization, freight transport development along the Middle Corridor, and corridor diagnostics, underscoring a shared commitment to strengthening Eurasian connectivity.
