Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit Turkmenistan on December 13 at the invitation of his Turkmen counterpart, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, to take part in the International Year of Peace and Trust forum.
The visit marks the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan’s permanent neutrality, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said, highlighting the forum’s focus on peace, trust, and international cooperation, The Caspian Post reports via Russian media.
Russia and Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations in 1992. That same year, they signed a Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, forming the legal basis for long-term collaboration.
Over the years, the two countries have maintained strong ties in politics, trade, energy, transport, and culture. Russia is a major trading partner for Turkmenistan, particularly in natural gas and transport infrastructure, while thousands of Turkmen students study in Russian universities. High-level visits and agreements, including a Strategic Partnership Treaty in 2017, have reinforced their cooperation.
