Turkmenistan, Afghanistan Boost Ties in High-Level Ashgabat Talks

Turkmenistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Ahmed Gurbanov, and Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Turkmenistan, Mohammad Fazel Saber, have held a productive meeting in Ashgabat to discuss the ongoing development of strong bilateral relations between the two countries.

The talks focused on expanding political, economic, and strategic cooperation across several key sectors, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.

Central topics included the TAPI gas pipeline project, which both sides recognized as vital for enhancing regional energy security and fostering economic growth among Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.

The delegates also discussed plans to develop railway networks aimed at boosting transport and logistics capacity, thereby increasing freight traffic between the countries. Additionally, the TAP initiative, involving power transmission and fiber-optic communication infrastructure between Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, was highlighted as an important step toward greater regional integration.

The meeting also addressed ways to facilitate trade to further increase bilateral commerce. A humanitarian component was underscored through discussions on improving services for Afghan migrants residing in Turkmenistan.
