Turkmenistan and CAREC Discuss Key Environmental and Climate Change Challenges

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Myahri Byashimova, met with Zafar Makhmudov, the Executive Director of the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) on January 31, according to a report from the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The parties discussed a wide range of issues in the field of environmental protection, ecology and climate change, The Caspian Post reports citing foreign media. They also considered issues of cooperation, in particular, Turkmenistan's international initiatives in the field of environmental protection, the efforts of Central Asian countries in combating the negative consequences of climate change, as well as issues of implementing joint projects.

It was noted that, having ratified the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement, Turkmenistan is fulfilling all of its obligations.

The sides also discussed the active work of the CAREC Project Office in Turkmenistan, whose activities are aimed at promoting the development of regional dialogue between representatives of environmental and water agencies of the countries of the region.

They expressed hope for further promotion of mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and CAREC.
