Turkmenistan Approves Ashgabat–Turkmenbashi Rail Upgrade

Turkmenistan is moving to strengthen its transport and logistics backbone as President Serdar Berdimuhamedov has approved the modernization of the Ashgabat-Turkmenbashi railway.

The proposal was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Mammethan Chakyev during a Cabinet meeting, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.

The railway line plays a strategic role, linking multiple regions of the country with the International Seaport of Turkmenbashi and serving as a key artery for integrating Turkmenistan’s national rail network into major international transport corridors, including Lapis Lazuli, TRACECA, North-South, and East-West routes.

President Berdimuhamedov emphasized the steady progress being made in the development of the country’s transport and logistics system, as well as efforts to boost Turkmenistan’s transit potential. He instructed the deputy prime minister to proceed with the implementation of the modernization project, underscoring its importance for regional connectivity and international trade.
