Turkmenistan is boosting freight transportation along the international North-South corridor.
The Ministry of Railways is working to increase transit and international cargo volumes, improve the range and quality of rail services, and create favorable tariffs for freight operators, The Caspian Post reports via Turkmen media.
Thanks to the country’s logistics capabilities, container shipments are increasingly used to enhance transit, import, and export cargo flows along the North-South, Lazurit, and East-West corridors.
From January to November 2025, Turkmenistan handled 19,000 container shipments, including 9,250 transit, 5,650 export, and 4,100 import containers-an increase of 9,405 containers compared to the same period last year.
Additionally, 63 container trains were transported in 2025 along routes including Russia-Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran, Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Europe, and Uzbekistan, highlighting the country’s growing role in regional logistics.
