Turkmenistan, Germany Deepen Healthcare Ties with Focus on Innovation and Training

Turkmenistan and the Federal Republic of Germany have reinforced their enduring cooperation in healthcare, aimed at adopting global best practices and building up the skills of local medical professionals.

A recent highlight of this partnership was the working visit to Ashgabat by a delegation of German medical professors, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.

During their visit, the German experts toured several facilities under the Directorate of International Medical Centers. Notably, they visited the International Cardiology Center, where German and Turkmen specialists exchanged knowledge and experience. This center has a long history of collaboration with Germany; as far back as 1998, German cardiac surgeons were conducting joint heart surgeries there, both for children and adults.

The delegation also toured the Scientific‑Clinical Center for Maternal and Child Health, with a focus on the department for Early Childhood Development and Early Intervention. German specialists commended the professionalism and organizational standards of Turkmen medical teams, citing visible results from years of training, modernization, and collaborative efforts.

Long-Term Impact and Institutional Cooperation

The collaboration between Turkmenistan and Germany in healthcare is rooted in structured institutional ties. Since 2011, the Turkmen‑German Medical Forum has served as a regular platform for cooperation between Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Health and Germany’s Senior Expert Service (SES).

To date, more than 200 German professors have visited Turkmenistan for extended periods. Their work has included:

Conducting seminars and hands‑on training

Supporting complex medical procedures - for example, advanced neurosurgery, radiological diagnostics, angiography, and rehabilitation

Meanwhile, hundreds of Turkmen physicians have completed internships at well‑known clinics in Germany, gaining exposure to state‑of‑the‑art techniques and systems.

Scientific Research & Modern Infrastructure

The partnership extends beyond professional training into scientific research, including joint studies on issues such as gestational diabetes.

Meanwhile, modern equipment from leading German manufacturers - such as Siemens, Fresenius, and Hospitalia International - has been installed in Turkmenistan's medical centers. This supply of high‑quality medical technology underscores the tangible outcomes of this collaboration.
