Turkmenistan, Qatar to Boost Cooperation on Cultural Heritage and Digital Preservation

Turkmenistan and Qatar have agreed to deepen cooperation in the preservation and digitization of cultural heritage, following a high-level meeting held during the international exhibition and scientific conference in Ashgabat.

Turkmenistan’s Minister of Education, Jumamyrat Gurbangeldiev, met with Tan Huism, Executive Director of the National Library of the State of Qatar, to discuss new opportunities in the field of librarianship and digital technologies, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.

The meeting also included the Director of the Magtymguly Institute of Language, Literature, and National Manuscripts under the Academy of Sciences of Turkmenistan.

Both sides emphasized the importance of protecting shared cultural, historical, and literary legacies. Special attention was given to rare publications related to the Turkic world and the Turkmen nation, which are currently preserved in Qatar’s national library. The Turkmen side expressed a keen interest in making these materials digitally accessible to national universities and academic institutions.

The Qatari delegation welcomed the proposal for collaboration in digitization and cultural data exchange, confirming its readiness for close cooperation in the field.

Officials from both countries agreed that bilateral cultural ties between Turkmenistan and Qatar hold special significance in the broader context of Arabian Peninsula partnerships. The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthening ties and promoting initiatives that safeguard and share historical heritage through modern technologies.
