The 7th Xinjiang International Folk Dance Festival has officially opened in Urumqi, China showcasing a vibrant mix of dance dramas, opera, ballet, and contemporary dance that celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage.
Scheduled to run until August 5, the festival features 52 performances by artists from China and eight foreign countries including Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the US, Italy, and Cambodia, The Caspian Post reports, citing Turkmen media.
While Urumqi hosts the main events, satellite performances and activities are being held in other regional centers including the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture, Hotan Prefecture, Aksu Prefecture, and the cities of Karamay, Hami, and Aral.
Just a day before the festival’s opening, the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture launched the “Tianma” Culture and Tourism Festival, themed around horses. This festival highlights the region’s deep cultural roots and its potential as a tourism destination.
