A team of experts from the World Health Organization Regional Office for Europe (WHO/Europe) has conducted a week-long technical mission in Ashgabat, aimed at improving the prevention and treatment of chronic respiratory diseases in Turkmenistan.
Collaborating closely with national healthcare specialists, the mission focused on reviewing and updating clinical guidelines for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and bronchial asthma to align with the latest global standards, The Caspian Post informs via Turkmen media.
During their visit, WHO experts developed new patient-centered clinical pathways designed to enhance diagnostic accuracy, treatment effectiveness, and long-term management of these respiratory conditions.
The mission also featured intensive training sessions in pulmonology and allergology. These sessions were held at the International Scientific and Clinical Center of Physiology and selected medical facilities in Ashgabat and Turkmenabat (Lebap region). The trainings aimed to strengthen local capacities for quality control and monitoring of respiratory care services.
The week concluded with a meeting of the national working group, which outlined future steps to scale up successful practices across the country. This initiative reflects WHO’s continued commitment to supporting Turkmenistan in tackling noncommunicable diseases and advancing public health.
