Airports, Stations in Uzbekistan Get New Uzbek Names

Uzbekistan is updating the names of transport hubs-including airports, bus terminals, and stations-to align with the rules of the Uzbek state language.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the decree to standardize toponymic names across the country, The Caspian Post reports via Uzbek media.

According to the document, 161 locations will undergo reform. Some names will be adapted to correct spelling rules, while 21 sites will receive entirely new names. All signs and informational panels will be updated to the Latin-script Uzbek alphabet.

The update process will take three months, during which authorities must revise official documents, update navigation maps, and refresh digital databases.

Previously, the international airport built on the site of the former Tashkent-Vostochny airfield was officially renamed Toshkent-Humo.
